A 1912, Ibach grand piano for sale with a black case. This piano was sent from the Ibach piano factory to furniture makers in the artist colony in Hellerau, Dresden where it was decorated. Cabinet features styling typical of the developing Bauhaus movement. Inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement and Cubism, raw geometric lines dominate the case styling. The music desk features circles within squares, a typical motif of Peter Behrens. The legs and piano lyre are almost cubist in form. The piano lid features a scalloped design. The nascent Industrielkultur of the day championed the work of the craftsman and simple form over fussy ornamentation. It sought to spiritualise German work represented in clean, abstract Classical forms.
