Founded in the city of Kakegawa over 130 years ago, Yamaha (at that time the factory was called Nippon Gakki Company) began operating in 1887. Its establishment is associated with an unusual event when Torakusu Yamaha took on the repair of contemporary organs. Achieving success and foreseeing the potential of creating instruments, he decided to delve deeper into the construction of organs and soon build his own model. It was not a great success, but it prompted the creator to in-depth studies in the field of tuning and theoretical laws of music. Thus, in 1900, the first upright piano was created by Torakusu, and just two years later - in 1902, a grand piano was built, which won an honorary award at the world fair. This was the beginning of introducing Western instruments to the Eastern market. So far, in the first few years, Yamaha produced instruments for the Japanese market. In the following decades, the factory’s technicians traveled to Europe multiple times to learn from the best piano makers. The company also invited German craftsmen to improve the piano creation process, and as a result, by the thirties, they had a much-improved product. Currently, factories are located in Japan, the United States, and Indonesia. In the mid-20th century, Yamaha worked heavily on producing the CF piano - the number of facilities gradually increased, and the assembly techniques of individual parts and wood drying were becoming increasingly sophisticated.
