This Chickering grand piano is a family heirloom crafted in the late 19th century (built 1885).
It was owned by the Gatewood family of Canisteo, NY, and later passed to the Day family of Bedford, TX.
In 1984 the instrument received a full mechanical restoration, including a new soundboard, a solid brass harp, renewed action mechanisms, new dampers and new strings.
The case preserves its original dark mahogany finish; the black keys are African ebony and the white keys are genuine ivory.
After the 1984 restoration the piano was seldom played and remained in climate-controlled storage from 2007 until 2018.
The instrument measures 228.6 cm, features 88 keys and three pedals, and delivers a warm, collector-grade tone suitable for performance or display.
