PIANO: Steinway & Sons, Style 3 — 7'2" Grand with bench, serial #38352
Finish: Ebonized, lacquer finish (black)
Description: This exceptional Style 3 grand was built in Long Island City, NY in 1877 and represents Steinway’s Golden Period. During the last decade it has undergone significant reconditioning: new strings, oversize tuning pins, and replacement Steinway hammers with new shanks and flanges were installed. The instrument retains hallmark Steinway construction such as the Steinway Foundry plate and a hard‑rock maple wrest‑plank.
The restoration brought the piano to concert‑level performance while preserving its characteristic old‑world tone. The seller notes the rework was completed without a full rebuild to offer added value; importantly, the new hammers have not been played in. Overall the piano is in good but not flawless condition and is priced accordingly (selling for under 35% of many comparable restored examples).
This is a rare late‑19th‑century Steinway grand that combines historic construction with modern reconditioning for immediate musical use.
