The Yamaha AvantGrand N3X combines a genuine grand piano action with modern digital sound generation. Optical light sensors detect the key strike very precisely and provide a sensitive touch response without mechanically interfering with the action. Yamaha captured sound samples at four positions on the soundboard (left, right, center, rear); this method produces a significantly more realistic, spatial sound image than conventional stereo recordings. For high-quality playback, a four‑channel spatial-acoustic speaker system is used, with a speaker layout matching the recording positions to enable a three-dimensional presentation of the piano sound. The instrument has 88 keys, is presented in polished black and delivers, at 119 cm in length, the expressive power of a grand piano in a compact form.
