Modeled on the same principle as a violin, the entire instrument’s body participates in sound production rather than only the soundboard. At the heart of the rim lies a 10 mm quarter‑sawn piece, expertly grooved by master craftsmen so it can be bent to follow the inner silhouette — a construction characteristic unique to Bösendorfer. When a key is struck, the integrated spruce elements become acoustically active and form a unified resonating body that projects the performance and produces a broad, nuanced tonal palette. This intricate build reflects the Viennese tradition of piano making.

Individual Stringing

Every string is fitted with a handmade loop, a detail that contributes to improved tuning stability over time and simplifies servicing.

Unique Bass Strings

The bass strings are wound in Bösendorfer’s distinctive manner: a steel core is covered with one or two layers of copper, and these carefully spun strings are a key factor in the instrument’s warm, sonorous bass.

Independent Capo d’Astro

Bösendorfer applies a detachable, independent Capo d’Astro in the upper register — a solution that enables very precise adjustment and preserves the authentic Bösendorfer sound across generations.

Open Pinblock

The open pinblock is constructed from three layers of 7 mm quarter‑sawn maple, glued cross‑grained onto a red beech base for stability. The top face is finished with a 1.5 mm walnut veneer, providing a firm foundation for the tuning pins.
