Yamaha’s Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (A.R.E.) system is the latest milestone in piano manufacturing. What does it involve? It is an exclusive process we use to treat the inner and outer rims used in SX Series pianos. In addition to reducing the moisture content in the wood of these parts, the A.R.E. system produces chemical changes that occur in wood aged under ideal conditions. This allows us to enjoy the warm, sweet sound of a “mature” instrument from the very first moment. The benefits of the A.R.E. system have already been proven in the acclaimed Artida YVN500S violin and the L and A Series acoustic guitars. For the first time, A.R.E. technology reaches an acoustic piano, for a unique sound. Natural, deep, with splendid resonance and expressive precision even in the most delicate pianissimos.

Rims: the key to a warm, clear sound

For the inner and outer rims of the SX Series, Yamaha’s craftsmen carefully select the wood that best suits the desired sonic character. In construction, the number of plies forming them has been reduced, using layers 30% thicker than in the previous S Series to improve the inherent resonance of that wood. This approach has shaped the character of the SX Series pianos, giving them greater richness, clarity and power in the low and mid ranges, while maintaining a great balance in the final tone.

New hammer felt that expands timbral possibilities

To achieve the perfect sound, it is essential that the hammers integrate with the rest of the piano’s components in pursuit of a specific character. The SX Series uses a unique felt, developed expressly for these pianos and the result of extensive R&D to obtain the best sound. The incredible elasticity of this felt offers the pianist a very wide dynamic range, with a sound that is always clear and musical, very balanced across the entire range of the instrument. Reinforced bracing that supports the piano’s structure and sound

The great force required to achieve a powerful fortissimo can even cause the structure to flex slightly, losing energy and distorting the sound. To withstand the interaction of pianists and achieve the best sound, the piano must have a highly resistant structure. The SX Series has bracing with a cross-section 20% larger than the previous S Series. This greater strength provides a more stable assembly and reduces unwanted vibrations. The SX Series starts from a solid structure so that musicality can flow.
