We present the Yamaha GC1 SH, a 161 cm grand piano designed to offer sonic versatility without sacrificing acoustic character. Its 88-key action incorporates sensors under each key that record depth, velocity and timing of the keystroke to convert that information into an audio signal when the digital modes are activated.

The TransAcoustic system allows playing at any volume: when activated, the hammers stop hitting the strings and the tone generator adds the selected voice. This function projects the sound through the soundboard, so headphones or external amplification are not necessary. Meanwhile, the SILENT Piano SH technology offers the option to practice with headphones for quiet sessions and private recordings.

The instrumentation includes a binaural sample of the Yamaha CFX concert grand, providing a natural sense of space in the listening experience. In addition, the piano features 50 preset tracks/accompaniments and the ability to play back personal recordings or commercial pieces via the resonance of the body.

The sonic palette is wide: in addition to the acoustic piano, 19 extra voices can be selected — digital pianos, harpsichord, vibraphone, organs, strings, choirs and synthesizers — and combined with the instrument’s natural sound to create richer textures. All voices are projected through the soundboard, preserving the acoustic character even in the digital layers.

Thanks to its construction and electronic options, this GC1 SH is a suitable solution for studios, rehearsal rooms, jazz venues, hotels and spaces that require sonic flexibility without disturbing the surroundings. The finish is black and the instrument retains Yamaha’s characteristic reliability and touch.
