Occasion, Erard, Concert

Erard grand piano (Grancoda), year 1844, length 240 cm, serial number 16716, case finish in feathered rosewood veneer with carved solid rosewood frames, distinctive "a torciglione" (twisted) legs, complete with the second lid "nascondi cordiera", perfect ivory keyboard.

It was restored 13 years ago and the main restoration operations are the following: filettatura, soundboard treated under controlled humidity, re-stringing, installation of historic Paulello steel strings, Hellerbass bass strings in Paulello steel and brass; hammer action refelted by Desfougeres in Paris; replacement of damper tufts with new plates, as the originals; repair of decorations; original lacquer refreshed in shellac.

According to the Erard register (documentable in photos) the instrument was sold in Naples to a noblewoman who took lessons at home from S. Thalberg. A splendid and distinctive instrument from the full Chopinian era, perfect for philological recordings and specialist concerts of the contemporary repertoire.
