c.1898 Steinway & Sons Model A (serial no. 93930)

This 6'2" (188 cm) Steinway A is presented in a high-gloss rosewood veneer and retains its original ebony and ivory key surfaces. The instrument has 85 keys, two pedals and the characteristic turned “elephant” legs, complemented by an ornate carved music desk and inlaid Steinway & Sons marquetry on the fallboard. It combines the presence of period furniture with concert-capable tone.

The piano was sourced and its restoration commissioned by Chamberlain Pianos. The casework and the cast-iron frame remain original; all perishable moving parts were replaced during a full rebuild. A new top action from Steinway Hamburg and genuine Steinway components were fitted by a leading European Steinway specialist, restoring reliable, high-performance playing characteristics.

On arrival at our Haslemere showroom the instrument received a bespoke setup by our in-house technician, including voicing, regulation and final adjustments. It is currently on display alongside our other restored Steinways and is available for direct comparison.
