This instrument arrived as part of a 12‑piano acquisition from Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music and was the largest piano in that group. The university employed an on‑staff technician, and these instruments were maintained to a high institutional standard.

During preparation we fitted new hammers, shanks and flanges, and the piano has been completely restrung. The action, strings, tuning pins and other internal components are in excellent condition (internals rated at least 9/10). Externally the case shows typical institutional signs of use — dings, small dents and surface scratches — but it has been cleaned and buffed and presents well (case rated about 7.75/10).

Tonally the KG‑8 produces a deep, resonant bass balanced by a clear, crisp midrange and treble. It offers strong projection and the dynamic characteristics expected of a concert instrument.
