The Weinbach 170 is a medium-range grand piano designed for use in concert halls, conservatories, music schools and private homes. Its voice is rich and well-balanced, typical for instruments in this class.

The tonal span covers 7 1/3 octaves; when the soft pedal is engaged it affects notes 1–69. Key travel measures 10 mm and the action is set to a touch weight of 51 g ±2 g. The instrument is tuned to 440 Hz as standard.

Construction highlights include a solid spruce soundboard (1,997 sq. in) with 11 pre-crowned solid spruce ribs, a 7-ply European Beech pinblock, and a #1 bass string length of 49.6". The piano is fitted with Abel hammers and can be equipped with either Petrof or Renner action. The standard configuration includes three pedals, among them the sustain pedal.
