Descripción
This Steinway & Sons D‑274 was built in Hamburg in 2006 and originally acquired for use at one of Britain’s notable Royal Theatres. It was required only occasionally as part of the venue’s programme, so play time has been very limited and the instrument remains a modern, well-preserved example of Steinway’s flagship concert grand.
The piano has recently undergone a full workshop preparation and an expert setup by John Ross, who served for over 38 years as Head Technician and Head of Workshop at Steinway & Sons UK. Thanks to this work, the instrument now delivers the balance, precision and confidence expected from a Model D.
Any minor cosmetic marks on the case have been carefully attended to, and the overall appearance matches the high standard of its mechanics and acoustics. The action feels exceptionally fresh—close to a new instrument—which reflects both its light prior use and the thorough technical service it received.
Tonally the piano offers the depth, projection and authority characteristic of a Model D, combined with a pleasing maturity that comes from careful settling rather than heavy wear. The sound is rich, expansive and refined, with excellent control across dynamics—qualities that suit concert and recording use.
This is a rare chance to acquire a Hamburg‑built Steinway Model D with genuine British theatre provenance and minimal previous use, now ready for its next musical chapter.
Delivery: the piano can be transported by a professional piano-moving team; grand piano delivery starts at £199.
