Kawai has been building quality pianos and grand pianos in Japan since 1927 and, along with Yamaha, is now considered the largest piano factory in the world. Both companies have been known for building consistently good quality pianos since the 1970s. Kawai is one of the few major companies still run by the Kawai family in Japan, with current owner Hirotaka Kawai heading the company. Used models of Kawai and other pianos are generally hard to find.
