Beskrivning
Historic Burger & Jacobi 132 upright piano, serial no. 3897, built c. 1888. The instrument has been completely overhauled (documentation available).
Musically and visually it is in unusually good condition. The soundboard was restored, the action geometry and felts are in good order, and the piano is perfectly playable with a very pleasing tone. The cabinet retains its original look and shows high-quality root-walnut veneer with decorative inlays and brass fittings.
Notable features:
• Johannes Brahms dedication dated 15 August 1888 in Thun (interior recommendation plate) — a historically interesting element that increases the instrument’s appeal. This inscription does not necessarily mean Brahms owned this specific piano; such recommendation plates were sometimes used by makers as promotion.
• Two candle holders indicating pre-electric construction.
• Decorative interior inscription and an elaborate cabinet form typical of the Gründerzeit period.
• Rare early under-damper system (a transitional design between top and bottom damping), making this model uncommon.
Restoration history: the piano was fully restored in the past (restoration cost recorded historically at CHF 6,000). The workmanship is neat and thorough; the instrument presents itself as a rare Swiss collector’s piano with strong aesthetic and cultural-historical value.
Technical data: acoustic upright, 63 cm length, height 129 cm, width 146 cm, 85 keys, 2 pedals, colour: brown, serial number 3897. Condition: used, excellently preserved and ready to play.
Sale conditions: price negotiable. Full restoration documentation available to interested buyers. Please contact the seller for viewing and further details.
