Erard Concert – 240 cm grand piano

Built in 1881 (serial number 53693). It is in a good state of preservation. A complete restoration of the action (including dampers) was carried out in 1989 by “Ditta Gallini - artigiani in Crema”, with replacement of strings and tuning pins. The case has the classic truncated-tail grand shape with the rim curved inward, the joining angles of the rims slightly rounded. The sides of the keyboard feature a multi-line profile. Every part of the instrument’s body (case, lid) has brass inlaid mouldings. The action is a double-escapement mechanism, in good order of maintenance and operation. The woods used are mainly cherry and beech. It is divided into four sections, according to the development of the string frame. The lyre is screwed to the underside of the piano board and has an anchoring post positioned posteriorly at the center of the structure. It has three brass rods that recall the strings of the Greek lyre (the central one is fixed; the lateral ones operate the pedals). Brass inlays follow the contour of the lyre. The soundboard, in spruce with fine longitudinal grain, shows some cracks.
