Description
Magnificent Grotrian‑Steinweg grand piano, 220 cm, a unique piece with elaborate inlays and a shellac finish in mahogany pommelé.
Technical details:
- Length: 220 cm
- 88 keys
- 3 pedals (including sostenuto)
- Renewed Renner action
- Keyboard by Kluge using the original natural key covering (with certificate of harmlessness)
- Renewed dampers
- Gilded agraffes and fittings
Current condition:
The instrument was thoroughly overhauled about 14 years ago; among other work it received a new Renner action, renewed dampers and the third pedal. At the last service at Klavierhaus Stark (Konstanz) the hammer heads were lightly filed, the escapement and hammer line were adjusted, and the grand was re‑voiced and tuned. The instrument is therefore ready to play.
Restoration & origin:
The grand belongs to a special Grotrian series from the early 1920s; during the renovation the original serial number was lost, the frame number X‑A293 remains. In the course of the work the stringing and the cast‑iron frame were renewed and the agraffes and fittings were gilded, which, in addition to the appearance, reduces corrosion on the strings. The veneer and inlays make this example a one‑off.
Sound & use:
Since the renovation the grand has been played regularly but not excessively. Its sound volume reaches into smaller halls and it is well suited for chamber music performances. Tonal character and projection have been maintained and balanced by the renovation.
Sale & service:
The instrument comes from a business liquidation and was acquired through inheritance; for space reasons the sale is private. On request I will gladly send a current audio sample. For a reasonable sale price I can arrange ground‑floor delivery by a specialist carrier within Germany. Tuning is included in the offer.
