Description
This carefully restored Matthaes clock grand is a fine example of Art Deco design and serves as a particularly decorative and musical element both in homes with 1920s/’30s interiors and in sleek, modern living rooms.
Thanks to the characteristic symmetrical “clock” shape, the bass strings gain more angular space, allowing the strings to be effectively lengthened. The result is a fuller and richer tonal palette than one would normally expect from a 135 cm instrument.
Although the case remains compact (135 cm), this little grand delivers musical volume and expression that often rival larger grands.
The grand has been thoroughly restored by us. Work carried out and parts used:
- Action fully restored and in excellent condition
- Soundboard cleaned and refinished/varnished
- Finish in classic black politoer
- Keyboard (ivory) restored; key cloth renewed
- Conical front pressure bushes applied for improved touch
- Damping felt replaced
- Bass strings and steel strings renewed according to the original dimensions
- Tuning pins renewed in an authentic blue finish
- Tuned, regulated and voiced
