Description
Top-quality wood
The quality of the wood is of vital importance to a piano maker, and Steingraeber & Söhne therefore takes no risks. It is stored at a carefully controlled and constant relative humidity of 40%. Steingraeber uses for soundboards exclusively mountain spruce, slowly grown spruce with tightly spaced growth rings, at least 25 years old. The soundboard is not only an amplifier but also the source of the tone.
Therefore the resonance of the wood must match the register of the piano for which it is intended. The solid red and pale beech wood used for the bridges is left to rest for another three years after arrival at the factory before being worked.
