Steinway & Sons A-188 – refurbished salon grand piano 188 cm

This Steinway & Sons A‑188 comes from the teaching inventory of a Hamburg pianist who used the instrument for around 40 years. About 11 years ago the grand was carefully and faithfully refurbished by us. In recent years it was used privately and has now been traded in for a larger grand.

During the overhaul many wear parts were replaced with original components: pin block, strings and tuning pins; action parts including rollers, hammer heads and shanks; damper felts as well as keyboard and frame felts. Some mechanical parts were already supplied a few years ago by the Steinway Hamburg workshop. The keyboard was replaced with a new Ivoplast version from the company Kluge (Steinway); the keys are made of black ebony.

The exterior received a new high-gloss polyester finish by INAM Oberflächentechnik. In addition, the acoustic setup was reworked: the soundboard was re-arched and refinished, the cast iron plate was restored and the brass parts polished.

Sonically the grand presents a balanced performance across all registers: a long-sustaining tone with a pleasing midrange, a powerful, harmonious bass and a clear, transparent treble. The typical Steinway key weighting enables controlled playing and fine dynamic nuances.
