Description
This Steinway & Sons B‑211 (circa 1895) has been preserved and comprehensively rebuilt to contemporary standards.
A full-scale restoration was completed in 2012. The works comprised planing and refinishing of the soundboard, sandblasting and repainting of the cast‑iron frame, and reinforcement of the pinblock (wrestplank doubling). All strings were replaced; the pinblock and tuning pins were also renewed.
The action was fully overhauled: hammerheads and hammer shanks were exchanged, dampers were renewed and all felts refreshed. A specialist maker, Kluge, produced a bespoke keyboard for the instrument; where practicable the original natural keytops were re‑filed and re‑installed.
The piano was converted from two pedals to a three‑pedal setup and the case received a uniform high‑gloss black polyester finish.
Around 2018 a Steinway specialist carried out re‑regulation and re‑intonation. The instrument is tuned on a regular schedule (twice a year) and has been kept in a climate‑controlled, humidity‑stabilised environment.
This well‑cared for B‑211 (211 cm, 85 keys, 3 pedals) brings together historic build quality and a thorough modern rebuild. The owner is selling due to relocation abroad. Price is negotiable.
