Description
The National Philharmonic in Warsaw offers for sale a concert grand piano Steinway & Sons model D-274, serial number 441620, manufactured in 1974 at the Hamburg factory. This legendary instrument, considered one of the finest concert grands in the world, has served outstanding artists for decades and represents an excellent candidate for full restoration.
The piano features 88 keys with natural key coverings, as certified by Steinway Hamburg on April 11, 2025. The soundboard is in very good condition with no cracks. The pinblock and tuning pins are in good condition, though a larger pin size would be necessary if the strings were replaced.
The original Steinway & Sons action remains intact, but the hammers, shanks, rollers, and flanges require replacement. A full set of steel and bass strings should also be replaced. The **cast iron frame** requires refinishing, and felt spacers under the strings must be renewed.
The legs' casters should be replaced with modern versions to prevent floor damage. The dampers require new felts. The case, finished in high-gloss black polyester, shows wear and has several chips in the lacquer, especially on the legs and edges of the lid and fallboard.
Despite 51 years of intensive use, after undergoing a complete overhaul this piano can once again meet the demands of a professional instrument suitable for music schools or cultural institutions.
The piano is being sold through a public tender, and the listed price is the starting bid. We invite interested parties to contact us for more information or to arrange an inspection of the instrument.
