Description
Serial Number: 521580 'Beethoven'
Built: Hamburg, late 1991
Condition: Fully Restored (2019–2020) – Near New
Provenance: Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam – Meesterpianisten Series
Provenance & History
This Hamburg-built D‑274 was owned and used exclusively by Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, serving as the primary concert grand for its world-renowned Meesterpianisten series. For decades, only the most celebrated pianists performed on this particular instrument.
In 2019, the piano underwent a full Steinway-authorized restoration, which was completed within 6 months. As the COVID-19 pandemic restricted concert activity, the instrument remained largely untouched post-restoration — leaving it in immaculate, near-new condition. Since 2022 it’s located at a small and climatized venue where it’s used for 6 concerts per year only. All wheels are newly polished. It includes its original cover. Piano passport available. Tuning exclusively by exceptional and certified Steinway technician.
The sound of this beast is enormous, delicate, poetic, clear, melancholic and exuberant. Or as the Concertgebouw described it: 'A Noble Lion, A Singing Madonna'.
Humidity Control System: 2025
