Description
Yamaha G2 Grand Piano – Made in Japan (c. 1978–1980) - Renewed Yamaha Action & Strings - Signed by Lazar Berman
A beautifully maintained Yamaha G2 grand piano, handcrafted in Hamamatsu, Japan around 1978–1980. Professionally rebuilt with a new Yamaha action and strings approximately 20 years ago.
We purchased this piano in 1986, and it has remained in our family ever since. It has served as both a teaching instrument and a beloved family piano for four decades.
We are offering this piano for sale only because we are relocating overseas. We hope it will continue its musical life in the hands of someone who will truly appreciate it.
Specifications:
• Yamaha G2 Grand Piano
• Made in Hamamatsu, Japan (approximately 1978–1980)
• Length: approx. 173 cm (5’8”)
• Two-pedal model
• Signed by the legendary pianist Lazar Berman on 18 November 1994, with a personal handwritten inscription in German (“Für meine neuen Freunde!” – “For my new friends!”)
• Entire Yamaha action professionally replaced by Yamaha technicians approximately 20 years ago
• All strings replaced at the same time
• Excellent mechanical condition with a responsive, even touch
Tone:
Even after nearly five decades, it continues to offer the warm, singing voice that makes older Yamaha grands so highly appreciated by many pianists.
Touch:
Thanks to the professionally replaced Yamaha action, the keyboard feels responsive, balanced, and reliable across the entire range.
The piano remains a pleasure to play for students, teachers, and advanced pianists alike.
Cosmetic Condition:
This piano has been played and loved for many years, and its appearance reflects honest use.
• The white keytops have visible surface cracks, which are cosmetic only and do not affect playing.
• One piano leg has some finish damage and cracking in the lacquer.
• There are other small signs of age consistent with a well-used instrument.
Rather than restoring the exterior, we chose to preserve the piano in its original condition, believing that its musical qualities are far more important than cosmetic perfection.
A Well-Cared-For Instrument. This is not simply an older grand piano.
It is a carefully manufactured Japanese-built Yamaha G2 with professionally renewed action and strings, and a warm, mature voice that many newer instruments simply do not possess.
It would be an excellent choice for:
• pianists seeking a characterful instrument
• piano teachers
• conservatory students
• music studios
