Description
A, 1950's Zimmermann baby grand piano for sale with a contrasting yellow and black formica case. Cabinet features an asymmetrical music desk with geometric cut-outs. Angular styling is seen throughout the cabinet design. The tapered geometric legs are black with formica accents. The obtusely angled piano cheeks have black contrasting stripe down the cabinet. The minimal tubular steel piano lyre is reminiscent of a sputnik satellite.
The post-war boom brought massive changes in the home; it was out with the old and in with the new. The American diner look with bubblegum or primary colours, neon and kitsch became a design classic. New materials were introduced including PVC, Formica, fibreglass, rubber, melamine, aluminum, vinyl, plastics. Abstract and geometric patterns were popular. Scientific research and the space race also informed design.
