The Yamaha U1 is regarded as a benchmark among upright pianos thanks to its tonal quality and expressive response, appreciated by teachers and concert pianists.

The design of the U series has been updated with an optimized scale and improved components to achieve a fuller tone and balanced resonance across the entire keyboard. The soundboard and internal structure have been reinforced: ribs and braces increase stiffness and stability, contributing to the overall durability of the instrument.

The hammers use selected materials to ensure better sound production, precise response and greater longevity. The fallboard features a soft-close mechanism (a solution borrowed from grand pianos), which prevents sudden closures that could damage the keyboard or the user. The large music desk makes it easier to read large-format scores.
