Description
Gaveau art deco Quart de queue 1.52 m (from 1933), this piano is representative of the art of living in 1930s France. It appears in the salon of one of the 4 suites of the liner Le Normandie as one of the elements of luxury and refinement à la française.
Gaveau created a piano inspired by the great designers of the time, such as André Domin, Marcel Genévrière and the so-called "group of five": Dominique Circa, Chareau, Legrain, Puiforcat and Raymond Templier. With a design that combines the simplicity and modernism of Art Deco, it met with great success. It was found in the homes of middle-class families between the wars. Its craftsmanship, combining black rosewood and oak mesh, illustrates the quality of Gaveau as a piano cabinetmaker.
The restoration is now complete. The windchest has been changed, the strings and pegs are new, the action has been completely refurbished, and the keyboard is in ivory (bleached and repolished). The cabinet has just been varnished. The sound is modern and the touch is fast, firm without being harsh.
This piano will enhance a contemporary decor.
