History
Hardman Piano Company is a legendary American company that has been producing pianos since 1842. Like other great brands such as Baldwin, Knabe, and Steinway, Hardman has a rich history. The company was founded by Hugh Hardman in New York. His son, John Hardman, took over the company in 1879. In 1890, Leopold Peck joined, resulting in the name change to Hardman, Peck & Company. In the 1930s, the company was acquired by Aeolian Company, but production continued until 1985.From America to China and the Influence of Kawai
Since the 1990s, the Hardman brand has been owned by North American Music, and production was moved to China, to the Beijing Hsinghai factory. Thanks to collaboration with the Japanese company Kawai, the technology and quality of production are very high. Chinese technicians are trained to produce Kawai pianos for the Asian market.
It is worth noting that contemporary Hardman pianos differ from those produced in America. Historical Hardman pianos were luxury instruments, handcrafted with the utmost attention to detail. Modern Hardman pianos are mid-range instruments with a very good price-to-quality ratio, designed mainly for beginners and intermediate pianists. Thanks to their solid construction, they are ideal for schools and institutions.
Due to the attractive price, it is worth considering the purchase of a new Hardman piano, especially if you are comparing it with used Japanese instruments at a similar price.
