Description
I am reluctantly selling my Schimmel C189 Tradition (prepared “Konzert”) due to a move that forces me to replace it with an upright piano. Bought new in 2004, it has given me great musical pleasure thanks to a complete sonic palette, ideal for a pianist wanting the richness of a baby grand without taking up too much space.
I have always sought and appreciated its warm, German‑tradition tone. The instrument has benefited from careful maintenance: it has been kept out of direct sunlight, in a ventilated room with stable temperature and humidity, away from artificial heat sources, and has never been moved. A full regulation was carried out in May 2016; tunings and maintenance have been performed regularly, the last service dating from July 2023 when it was used by pianist Slava Guerchovitch for his preparation before a concert at Bozar (Brussels).
You are invited to come and see and try it by appointment.
The C189 Tradition, a large baby grand at the center of the “Schimmel Trilogy”, is suitable for demanding pianists seeking:
- a round, warm and rich tone: deep bass, pure treble and a nuanced palette;
- a precise action and exacting construction standards;
- power suited to confined spaces while retaining the expressive possibilities of a grand piano;
- an instrument that is both a reliable working tool and a piano of expression.
Handmade entirely in Braunschweig with high‑quality materials, it is BVK certified (100% German) and received the “Pianiste Maestro” distinction from Pianiste magazine in 2004.
Main characteristics (as provided):
- Schimmel CAD‑designed cast‑iron frame
- Enlarged soundboard/resonance body: +15% compared with a standard grand piano
- Dynamic‑tension harmonic structure: tension collector freeing the soundboard
- Soundboard in spruce from high‑altitude Bavarian forests
- Renner action for Schimmel
- Renner hammers (hard‑wood core, merino wool heads)
- Triplex scale with adjustable front hitch rail
- Schimmel keyboard: mineral coating for the white keys, ebony for the black keys
- Three pedals (sustain, sostenuto, una corda) and a cylinder slow‑down
- Indicated weight: 361 kg
