Used, Steinway & Sons, O-180

Steinway & Sons grand piano, Hamburg-built Model O-180 (1987), offered in an unusually original and lightly played state. The case displays a rare, highly figured Riegel mahogany veneer, hand-polished, and the keyboard retains its original ivory keys with full CITES documentation. The exceptionally figured mahogany veneer — described in German as Riegelmahagoni — produces the distinctive rippling, changing figure visible around the case.

All Steinway components are preserved; the action and hammers show only minimal wear consistent with very light domestic use. The instrument was originally selected with guidance from a leading Steinway specialist in Geneva and has been carefully maintained in a private home.

A comprehensive two-day service was carried out in 2025 by a Steinway-trained concert technician operating in Switzerland. The action and keyboard were dismantled, cleaned and lubricated, followed by full regulation, tuning and voicing. The piano was transferred to Switzerland in July 2026 and received a fresh tuning in Wetzikon in August 2026.

Documentation included with the instrument comprises Steinway provenance, EU certification, French CITES re-export papers and the Swiss CITES import permit; the original paperwork remains with the piano.

The piano is currently exhibited in Wetzikon and may be inspected and played by appointment. Viewings can be arranged through Gebr. Bachmann. Private sale by owner; professional delivery can be organised and a follow-up tuning after installation in the new location is included.
