Description
My objective with this instrument was to rebuild it in such a way that its service life could effectively be doubled, using modern components carefully adapted to the touch and tonal character of its original period (circa 1900).
The work carried out includes, among other things:
Acoustics
The soundboard has been thoroughly dried, repaired, and refinished. The bridges and bridge pins have been completely replaced.
The stringing has been recalculated and replaced, along with the tuning pins.
Damping system
The damper felts have been renewed, and the entire damper assembly has been replaced with a new Renner damper action. This allows for more precise individual regulation of the dampers.
Action and hammers
Originally, the action featured a fixed connection to the keys, as was common for the period. This has been converted into a modern action with new Renner wippens and shanks.
The hammers are lightweight Abel hammerheads with natural felt, closely matching the original weight. They have been calibrated to the milligram for an extreme consistent touch and tonal response.
For key weighting, new CKM brass balance weights have been used, eliminating the need for toxic lead in the keyboard.
The original ivory keytops have been replaced with exclusive Tharan key coverings, and the key sides have been fitted with new wood, giving the keyboard the feel of a brand-new grand piano.
The piano has been regulated to a balance weight of 37 grams and features a low frontweight curve, resulting in a light and highly responsive touch.
The instrument is finished in new high-gloss black polyester.
It is equipped with the PianoGuard system: a climate control system for pianos and grand pianos that maintains relative humidity between 45% and 65%.
The grand piano is located in my workshop in Dordrecht and can be extensively played and evaluated by appointment.
