Grand pianos Samick for sale
Down below you will find a list of 8 instruments - Samick
Although the grand piano originated in Europe, its reputation has spread worldwide. In the 21st century, one of the leading producers and sellers of pianos is a company from Asia.
History of Samick
Samick Pianos, a relatively young company, was founded in South Korea in 1958 by Hyo Ick Lee. Initially, the brand was involved in importing American grand pianos from Baldwin. Over time, taking on the challenge of growing the company, Hyo Ick Lee began producing his own Samick pianos in a small workshop. No one expected that within a few years Samick pianos would be exported abroad. A decade after the first piano was created, the company already employed thousands of workers, involved not only in the production of grand pianos but also in acoustic and electric guitars. Dynamic growth led to the opening of new branches in California (1978), Berlin (1980), and in the 1990s in Indonesia and China.
Despite promising growth, a series of unfortunate events led Samick to a difficult period and ultimately to bankruptcy. The causes included the founder's death in 1990, marketing neglect, and the devaluation of the Asian currency. South Korea's economic situation became so difficult that the factory fell into serious debt and declared bankruptcy at the turn of the 21st century. Fortunately, the potential of the company was recognized by Korean businessman Jong-Sup Kim. In 2002, he purchased Samick, and within a few years, the company bounced back, becoming a solvent and thriving brand. Over the years, Samick and Samick Music Corporation became owners of such brands as William Knabe & Co, Kohler & Campbell, and Pramberger and Seiler. Most Samick instruments are made in Indonesia, while high-end grand pianos are produced in Korea or the United States. The best quality instruments include Pramberger, Knabe, and Seiler. Samick also supplies pianos to the German factory C. Bechstein.
The changes in the construction of Samick pianos were overseen by the German piano designer Klaus Fenner in the 1980s, who ensured that the instruments were acoustically similar to European ones. Innovations included the German scale (imperial German scale) and changes to the soundboard construction.
Among Samick grand pianos, we mainly have small and medium models:
- SIG-48: 140 cm
- SIG-50: 150 cm
- SIG-54: 160 cm
- SIG-57: 167 cm
- SIG-61: 182 cm
There are also three models from the NSG series available on the market: 158 (5’2”), 175 (5’7”), 186 (6’1”). Samick grand pianos come in a wide range of finishes – from white, through various wood colors, to black and red instruments.
Would you like to know when a used Samick grand piano was made or its serial number?
These two issues are interconnected. Samick has a complex serial number system that also depends on the place of production. Such information can only be provided by the manufacturer or an experienced dealer.
Does Samick produce good, valuable, and durable grand pianos?
Samick's factory produces high-quality instruments, suitable for beginner pianists and amateurs who play the grand piano as a hobby. These instruments come from mechanized factories, where less attention is paid to precise handcrafting, which is highly valued today. The sound of Samick pianos is a matter of individual taste – it is very bright and round. Samick also succeeds due to the good value-for-money ratio of its instruments. To find out exactly how much Samick grand pianos are worth, it is worth checking the offers in the Klaviano search engine or consulting directly with a dealer of this brand.
Samick has also been producing digital pianos for years, modeling them on European instruments. We also mentioned that since 1965, Samick has been producing and successfully selling acoustic and electric guitars, being a leader in this field as well (brands Greg Bennett, Silvertone). This is an important production branch, which we did not cover due to the specifics of the portal.
